Loss of a Father and Healing by Lise Robinson

Losing a father can be an incredibly difficult experience, and the grieving process can be long and complex. I remember it like it was yesterday. The last moments spoken, the last goodbye and the pain beyond my soul. It was something that consumed me for weeks and to see the decline of life due to his illness it was a bittersweet relief that his body passed. The pain of cancer consumed his body but his spirit lived on through me to be the best I could be despite the challenges of life that comes.

Everyone experiences grief differently, but some common experiences and emotions that may be associated with the loss of a father include:

  1. Shock and disbelief: When someone loses a father, they may feel a sense of disbelief that the person is actually gone. This can be especially true if the loss was sudden or unexpected.

  2. Intense emotions: Grief can bring up a range of intense emotions, including sadness, anger, guilt, and anxiety. These emotions can be overwhelming and difficult to manage.

  3. Changes in relationships: Losing a father can also mean a loss of a significant relationship. This can affect other relationships in a person's life, such as relationships with other family members or friends.

  4. Changes in identity: A person's identity may be closely tied to their relationship with their father, so the loss can bring about a sense of identity loss and confusion.

  5. Physical symptoms: Grief can also manifest as physical symptoms, such as fatigue, difficulty sleeping, and changes in appetite.

It's important to remember that there is no "right" way to grieve and that everyone's grieving process is unique. It's also important to seek support from friends, family, and mental health professionals who can help you navigate the grieving process and provide comfort and understanding.
